Tony Edwards, CEO of Stepchange Global, has been invited to be part of the Program Committee for the SPE Digital Transformation Workshop, to be held in Rio de Janeiro in November 2024.
Tony’s experience and technical expertise in the area of Digital Transformation makes him an ideal candidate for the role of Program Committee Member, and he will bring that experience and expertise to the critical role of developing the technical content of this event. Tony will be involved in selecting the overall theme of the event and the session topics to be discussed.
The interactive workshop is designed to maximize the exchange of ideas among participants and presenters. This is achieved by eliminating formal, peer-reviewed papers in favor of brief technical presentations followed by an extended Q&A period. The organizers expect the topic will attract an informed audience eager to discuss issues critical to advancing both new technology and best practices. The majority of the presentations will be in the form of case studies, highlighting achievements, and lessons learned. To stimulate frank discussion, no proceedings are published, and the press is not invited.
About the 2023 Workshop
Digital technology promises to deliver operational efficiencies across multiple disciplines in the upstream value chain directly influencing break-even, operating costs, recovery factors, faster leaner field developments and infrastructure. In Brazil, changes in regulation, ownership and incentives are encouraging the appetite for risk from the new prolific ultra-deepwater pre-salt to the established mature fields. Digital technologies can deliver innovations and efficiencies across all these assets.
Digital transformation is as much about simple developments centered on transforming work functions and architecture (e.g Business Intelligence, Logistics, Project Management, Data Analytics) to the more complex (e.g. Risk Management, Safety & Human Factors, Asset Integrity & Lifecycle management). From deepwater offshore to mature assets onshore Brazilian E&P has all of these requirements with major players to smaller opportunistic disruptive enterprises developing technologies and addressing needs.
Obstacles in the Digital Transformation journey are many hindering technology uptake: change management, data governance, conflicting standards and protocols, IT infrastructure, skills & talent management, how to test, fail-and-learn fast, upscale and commercialize. Answers are not always easy to find as many digital applications are customized for specific use cases. For more information on the 2023 event and links to register for other SPE events, click Here
