Rising operating costs, high taxes and years of under-resourced regulation have taken their toll on the UK offshore oil and gas industry and damaged its international competitiveness – a situation that has been exacerbated by the fall in oil price.
Tax reforms announced in the Government’s 2015 Budget and the establishment of the new regulator, the Oil and Gas Authority, have laid the foundations for the regeneration of the North Sea but the industry must now build on this by delivering the cost and efficiency improvements required to secure a long term future for the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS).
In order to help contain inflationary pressures and achieve a sustainable future for the UKCS, Oil & Gas UK established the Efficiency Task Force in 2014 to drive cost and efficiency improvements of up to 40 per cent. At this event, a speaker from Deloitte will bring financial analysis to bear on the challenges facing the sector while a cost efficiency ‘champion’ from Total E&P UK will describe how operators, collaborating with the wider industry, are finding innovative ways to share and allocate resources on a basin-wide scale. A speaker from Statoil will then shed light on efficiencies they have achieved through shared logistics in Norway.
